What is this game?

Solitaire (Klondike) is the world's most classic and famous single-player card game. It perfectly combines luck and strategy, requiring players to move, reveal, and arrange playing cards to ultimately collect the entire deck into four foundation piles by suit and order. For decades, it has been the most popular time-killer on computers and mobile devices. Whether for seniors wanting to keep their minds active or office workers seeking a brief break, Solitaire is a perfect, self-paced casual game. A typical round takes between 3 to 10 minutes.

How to Play

The game uses a standard 52-card deck. At the start, the layout is divided into three areas: the four 'Foundation' piles at the top right, the 'Stock/Waste' pile at the top left, and the seven 'Tableau' columns taking up the center. Your goal is to stack all cards from Ace to King by suit in the four foundation piles. In the tableau, you must alternate red and black cards in descending numerical order (e.g., a black 8 on a red 9) to stack them. You can move entire sequences of correctly ordered cards to another column. When a tableau column becomes empty, you can only move a King or a sequence starting with a King into that space. You click the stock pile to reveal new cards you might need.

Beginner Tips

  • Expose hidden cards first: In the tableau, always prioritize moving cards to reveal the face-down cards beneath them. This is your only way to get new resources.
  • Don't rush to the foundation: If you need a hearts 4 to hold a spades 3, don't move the hearts 4 to the foundation too early; it's more useful in the tableau.
  • Play all Aces immediately: Whenever you see an Ace, move it to the foundation immediately. They are completely useless in the tableau columns.
  • Clear columns carefully: Don't empty a column just for the sake of it, unless you have a King ready to fill it or it reveals the very last hidden card.
  • Use the Undo feature: Most digital Solitaire games have an Undo button. If you aren't sure which hidden card is better to reveal, try it and undo if it's bad.

Advanced Strategy

Prioritize same-suit stacking: When choosing whether to put a black 8 on a hearts 9 or a diamonds 9, choose the one that helps you build a single-suit sequence later for moving to the foundation.

Memorize the Stock pile: If you're playing the 'Draw 3' mode, try to memorize which cards are in the waste pile; this helps you plan your next several moves.

Delay the last stock card: Sometimes intentionally not taking a playable card from the stock changes the sequence of subsequent 3-card draws, letting you access a desperately needed card.

Common Mistakes

Moving useful low cards too early: Placing a hearts 2 or 3 in the foundation, only to find a spades 2 trapped under hidden cards with nowhere to go, causing a dead end.

Placing Kings randomly: Having two empty spots but placing a spades King in a column with no hidden cards, instead of the one that holds a hearts Queen to reveal new cards.

Forgetting the Stock pile: Focusing only on shifting existing cards in the tableau and forgetting to click the stock pile for a key card to break the deadlock.
