What is this game?

Omino is an innovative puzzle game that blends Tetris-like polyomino mechanics with number merging. In this game, you must consider not only the fitting of shapes but also the growth of numbers. It is designed for players who enjoy spatial reasoning, number puzzles (like 2048), and seek a relaxing, untimed environment for deep thinking. The pace is entirely controlled by the player, with a single session lasting anywhere from a few minutes to tens of minutes, making it an excellent choice for cultivating patience and forward-thinking.

How to Play

The game takes place on a grid. At the bottom of the screen, you are given various polyomino shapes (like L-shapes, T-shapes, squares, etc.), each composed of cells bearing the same number. You must drag and drop these shapes onto the grid. When three or more cells with the same number become adjacent (regardless of which shape they originally belonged to), they merge into a single cell with a higher number, freeing up precious space. The goal is to continuously merge numbers to achieve the highest score. If the grid fills up and the provided shapes cannot fit anywhere, the game ends. You may also be able to rotate shapes (if the game allows) to find the best placement angle.

Beginner Tips

  • Cluster similar numbers: Try to place shapes with the same numbers in the same general area. Treat it like 2048; don't scatter your 1s across the entire board.
  • Leave room for merging: Before dropping a shape, see if it triggers an immediate merge. If not, think about where to place it so it least obstructs future merges.
  • Handle large shapes carefully: Bulky, oddly shaped blocks (like long bars or large crosses) are the easiest way to gridlock the board. Place them on edges if possible, or use them to connect existing groups of the same number.
  • Watch the 'Next' preview: Pay attention to the upcoming shapes and numbers at the bottom of the screen. This helps you decide whether your current move should be 'offensive (merging)' or 'defensive (leaving space)'.
  • Don't rush to fill: Keeping enough empty space on the board is key to survival. Don't fill the center with dead, unmatchable numbers just for short-term points.

Advanced Strategy

The art of chain merging (Combos): Advanced players don't just aim for single merges. By cleverly placing one shape, you can make a 3 turn into a 4, which immediately merges with two adjacent 4s into a 5, clearing a massive area in one move.

Garbage management: Sometimes the system gives you completely useless shapes. Stack this 'garbage' in a dedicated corner away from the main battlefield so they don't pollute your core merging zones.

Space slicing theory: When placing shapes, avoid slicing the empty areas into odd, fragmented spaces where not even a 2x2 block can fit. Try to keep empty areas open and regular.

Common Mistakes

Looking only at shapes, ignoring numbers: Playing it too much like Tetris, trying to fit shapes perfectly together without realizing you are completely encasing high-level numbers, making them un-mergeable.

Ignoring dead corners: Casually tossing an un-mergeable number into a dead corner with only one exit. This effectively reduces the usable area of your board permanently.

Being too casual due to no timer: Although there is no time limit, random placements are still fatal. Every thoughtless drop accelerates the game over.

Who is this game for?

Omino is for players who enjoy the thrill of puzzle-solving after careful deliberation. If you love the number growth of 2048 and the spatial fitting of 1010!, this game is an excellent brain gymnastic tailor-made for you.

Similar Games

1010! Block Puzzle

The classic representative of spatial fitting games. Though it lacks number merging, the core spatial logic of dragging Tetris shapes to fill a grid is identical.

Merged!

Extremely similar gameplay. You place blocks with dots (like dice) and merge three identical ones into a higher-tier block, eventually merging them into a screen-clearing bomb.

Drop the Number

Although a dropping game rather than drag-and-drop, it also combines positioning with number adding/merging, testing your ability to manage number stacks.
