Galaga Assault
What is this game?
Galaga Assault is the hyper-evolution of Bandai Namco's classic arcade masterpiece. It's tailored for shooting die-hards who crave high-intensity action feedback and double-firepower mowing satisfaction. Each round takes about 2 to 4 minutes. Unlike traditional shooters, this title introduces a core 'Capture and Merge' mechanic. Players don't just obliterate swirling mechanical alien swarms; they use tractor beams to hijack enemies, merging ships to form a massive behemoth, experiencing the devastating destruction of screen-filling laser arrays.
How to Play
Players swipe to pilot their fighter while the system auto-fires to destroy alien insects swirling overhead in bizarre arcs. The biggest difference from standard shooters is the 'Tractor Beam.' When your energy meter fills, you can deploy it to abduct an enemy ship, attaching it to your own hull to instantly double or triple your firepower! The pacing alternates between 'evasive survival' and 'berserk DPS' phases. If hit, you lose your merged ships and revert to your base form. Each stage ends with an oppressive Mothership Boss battle, requiring you to protect your massive merged hit-box while unleashing everything onto the Boss's weak points.
Beginner Tips
- Don't hoard your Tractor Beam. As soon as the energy meter fills, abduct an enemy. Double firepower is the absolute core to clearing formations quickly.
- Remember that merging doubles your ship's physical Hitbox! This means you need much wider spaces to dodge bullets; never hug the screen edges.
- Watch enemy entry trajectories carefully. They usually trace massive 'U' or 'S' curves. 'Camp' at the end of their flight path to pre-fire and destroy them instantly.
- When cornered by an unavoidable wall of bullets, trigger a screen-clearing bomb immediately. Never gamble on the delusion that 'I can squeeze through.'
- Prioritize elites that fire their own tractor beams. If you get sucked up, you don't just lose a wingman—you might instantly lose a life.
Advanced Strategy
Tactical Wingman Sacrifice: When a lethal Boss cannon is unavoidable, intentionally use your outer captured wingman to absorb the hit. You lose DPS, but your core ship survives.
Tractor Beam I-Frames: During the brief animation of firing the capture beam, your ship usually has a split-second of invincibility. Exploit this to dash through deadly laser webs.
Focused Armor Piercing: Against multi-shielded Motherships, don't spread your shots. Position your wide, merged fighter so the dense center laser stream focuses purely on one single weak point.
Common Mistakes
Merging into a massive ship but still flying like a tiny fighter, trying to thread the needle through tight bullet gaps and exploding because your wings are too wide.
Firing the Tractor Beam at the very top of the screen. Because you are too close, you might crash into newly spawned enemies before the animation finishes.
Running around wildly during Boss fights. Erratic movement sprays your bullets everywhere like pepper, hitting immune armor plating and achieving zero actual damage.
Who is this game for?
Highly recommended for veteran players with deep nostalgia for 80s arcades, and new-gen shooter fans who love the thrill of mech-merging and roaring cannons in a hail of bullets.
